2013 Rewind

What. A. Year! 2013 has been crazy amazing. From turning 22 to creating an entire collection for a fashion show, to traveling to NYC on a trip with my choir, to graduating college and starting "real life" and everything else in between! Even starting this blog in the last month! Just thought I'd share this short Flipagram video of my Instagram collection in 2013, representing all the events and friendships that happened this year. Seeing all the pictures from the year makes my heart happy and the song just makes me wanna dance!!! ♥

My song of the year - Die Young by Ke$ha.
Video made with smartphone app Flipagram.

Cheers to 2013 and here's to 2014!

Appreciating Technology: iPhone Love in 2013

"You know, I was thinking about it - advancements in technology have been a wonderful thing, and many say it's brought the world closer together, has kept people more connected."    -Janet Kuypers, Technology and Communication
I have always been behind the pack when it comes to (acquiring) cell phones and technology. My mom wanted to put it off as long as possible, so I didn't get my first cell phone until my junior year of high school (April 2008 to be exact.) Mind you, I am the oldest of four siblings, my brother and I got a phone at the same time with my mom and it made life way easier for our family of six, but there was still a ways to go. That first phone was a red Samsung flip phone - the top swiveled around to utilize a "fancy" 3.0 megapixel camera. WOO! Well, back in 2008 it had a larger resolution than most camera phones at the time, and there were other people who had the same model, so I wasn't completely behind.

Appreciating Technology in 2013, old to new phones

Fast forward to my freshman year of college, December 2009, when I got my second phone as an upgrade, the (also red) LG EnV 3. It had been a popular phone amongst my dance teammates in high school, so this is where I started to fall farther behind. The flip-up keyboard was pretty cool, so I didn't have to use the T9 system like on my first phone. This definitely seemed like a great upgrade to me, but at the time iPhones were becoming more and more popular and the norm. This is where it gets worse.

Last Minute DIY Gifts!

Last minute DIY Christmas gifts: painted canvases

I don't know about everyone else, but I tend to get my Christmas gifts together within a week or so of Christmas. And I don't necessarily mean buying them last minute. A lot of the time I want to DIY a gift and gather all the materials early on but don't get around to actually making the gift until the last few days possible. I guess it's better than being out there facing the retail crowds, right?

Either way, making gifts yourself can be a more rewarding experience for both you and the recipient of the gift. A favorite item I've made over the years is paintings on canvas. These paintings can be extravagant, simple, abstract, or somewhere in between. They don't have to be Van Gogh works of art, but if that's your thing, then by all means, go for it! All you really need to make this gift, at the bare minimum, is a steady hand for tracing and an idea of what you want to make.

Okay. I have to admit, I have finally jumped on the Lana Del Rey bandwagon. But I don't even want to call it a bandwagon, because I believe she really has talent. I think this "bandwagon" is actually just the buzz around the fact that she finally got more mainstream attention after years of trying to break into the biz. Summertime Sadness remix, aka THE song of the summer, anyone??

Hey there! Welcome to...

♥ ♥ ♥

My name is Kayla Grace and I'm a recent apparel design grad out of Oregon State University [GO BEAVS]. I started a blog in March of 2012 to document my personal style, DIYs, and involvement in fashion shows and such during school. The problem was, I had an idea but didn't really have a solid direction or plan for that blog. So it sat there, with a few posts here and there, not getting updated frequently. In the past couple of months during all the extra free time I've had (with only an internship and part-time job,) I've found my direction!

I got really excited and have been researching everything to do with the "blogger world" the past month or two. I'm so enthusiastic to start this endeavor and have this creative outlet. Although I majored in apparel design, I'm also really into graphic design and feel I've always had a creative design eye. I love creating. So in putting my passions and hobbies into more creative use, this blog will be centered around: my personal style (hashtag O-O-T-D!), DIYs and tips for sewing/altering and small projects, pursuits of my soon-to-be fashion line, beauty obsessions, inspiration, and everything else fashion, life, design and style-related that I enjoy!

I hope my blog brings you inspiration, ideas, or just a place to connect with like-minded people. Follow me on bloglovin' and let's get to know each other! I'm so thrilled to be a part of this fashion blogging community.
